New York To-Do list 01/10 – 01/16: Fashion And Modern Arts!
The To-Do list for 01/10 – 01/16 is all about fashion, after all, tickets to the New York Fashion Week, 2022 will be on sale from Jan. 12! And that’s not all – modern arts stand strong this week!
A statue of Rapper LL Cool J
James Todd Smith, the one we know and love as LL Cool J is an iconic name on the RNB scene since the mid-80s. He became the superstar he is with tracks like "Going Back to Cali", "I'm Bad", "The Boomin' System".
His statue, named Going Back to the Meadows, is located at the Flushing Meadows Corona Park, just in the middle of David Dinkins Circle, and is made of bronze. It is the work of Queens-raised (just as LL) sculptor Sherwin Banfield.
Tragicomic Film Played Across 80 Billboards in Times Square
The legendary billboards on Times Square have seen it all – famous commercials, music clips, even marriage proposals. Now, it’s time for a movie. They will air production of British artists John Wood and Paul Harrison. Bowery destination Cristin Tierney Gallery co-presents the project.
The tragicomic movie is a parody of everyday office life in the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic. The leitmotif is and the question “when are we going back to the office?”. The authors add a follow-up question that few of us actually ask ourselves. What are we going to do when we eventually go back to our work desks?
The movie is three minutes long and is part of the Times Square Arts' Midnight Moments series. Other movies Silent Spikes and Talking Hands — Watch My Nails Don't Watch Me, which you definitely need to see!
Dante Winter House
Add some winter atmosphere into your nights out with the Dante Winter House. This winter pop-up venue is Dante, the iconic NYC bar’s gift to New Yorkers, and is located at Pearl Alley at Pier 17!
The Dante Winter House is equipped with three special bars. They include a Coffee bar, the Dante Bar, and a Negroni Bar. They serve a wide range of fancy drinks, including Dante’s signature Dante’s Old Fashioned and Hot Smoked Toddy. And the range of performers is even wider – there are special evenings with all sorts of music, varying from DJs to Cuban bands to New Orleans Jazz quartets, every Thursday through Sunday night from 5:30 p.m. – 11 p.m.
New York Fashion Week, 2022
When it comes to high-end events, the NYFW is in a league of its own, or at least with a handful of others, including the Tony Awards, the Oscars, and the Emmys.
In 2022, the New York Fashion Week will hold smaller shows with strict COVID-19 procedures. Also, they would be dispersed all over New York – Collina Strada showing at Brooklyn Grange farm, Monse at the Pier 62 skate park, and Chromat at the People’s Beach. On the bright side, the calendar is stacked.
This week is full of European names and New York comebacks, from Moschino to Thom Browne and Rodarte. On Saturday, exciting events will be suspended for the 20th anniversary on September 11.
The official dates for the upcoming NYFW season are Friday, February 11 through Wednesday, February 16, 2022.
